CVS in San Fran
by JaniceJason on Nov 12, 2008Curious about other people's experiences....I can't believe that I'm even typing these words, but I had a wonderful experience with my CVS - Dr. Rand at UCSF - he's awesome. Great bedside manner, super friendly, confident, made it so bearable for me and talked me through it. He came highly recommended by several friends and they were right on. Wondering if everyone has easy CVS's, who else is great, other thoughts. I'm so pleased! :-)

Mercury and Pregancy
by klong on Oct 02, 2008Posted by the American Pregnancy Association.
The NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) has compiled a list of fish used in sushi and their levels of mercury.
Eating fish that is cooked can help reduce the risk of exposure to certain bacteria. Eating fish that is not on the "high" mercury list is also a way to eat fish safely. There are 4 types of fish that pregnant women should avoid.

First Birthday Venue
by melissam on Oct 24, 2008My little girl is turning 1 in December. As much as I'd love to have a small gathering at our home or a bbq at the park for her bday, it will be too cold at that time of year and our house is too small! We will have a large group (lots of adults, 5 or so kids under 2 and 5 kids under 5.) We'd love to have it at a place where there are things for the kids to do ie. playground with a clubhouse or something. Any suggestions would be great!

Momma, I’ll Have Some of Whatever You’re Having
by BrittG on Oct 01, 2008What are your thoughts?
By KEITH DIXON
Published: September 30, 2008
Nytimes.comA FEW months ago, my wife, Jessica, lured me into a hardware store a few blocks from our apartment, saying she wanted to show me a food mill she was thinking about buying.
’m an obsessive collector of kitchen gadgets, but when I laid eyes on the thing I was skeptical. Composed of three white plastic pieces — a base, a basket and a hand-crank — the food mill was too small, almost a toy, and would never stand up to the rigors of, say, a bushel basket of tomatoes. I protested. Jessica waited patiently until I got it: the mill wasn’t for me. It was for the baby.
Jessica had begun making meals for Gracie, our 7-month-old daughter, following the recommended pattern for carefully introducing individual puréed foods.
That all changed when she called me at work one day to tell me that she’d taken the food mill to the next level: since Gracie had tried all the basic ingredients from what we’d eaten the night before — my pasta Bolognese with mint — she had milled some up and watched with delight as Gracie happily finished every bite.
Jessica was only too happy to have at her fingertips a complete and healthy meal for Gracie. I was only too happy to hear that my baby had such good taste.
To be safe, I consulted two pediatric nutrition specialists. Dr. Jatinder Bhatia, a member of the committee on nutrition for the American Academy of Pediatrics, liked the meal sharing idea. He said feeding a child a range of foods encourages the child to be more adventurous at the table as she moves into her second year.
“This is how you teach your baby to develop likes similar to yours,” he said. “Otherwise, how would an Indian child eat curry or a Mexican child consume salsa?”
But he had some concerns, including allergic reactions. (It’s best to talk to your pediatrician about what solid foods you want to feed your baby.)
Recommend It!

My name is Yoko Saito and I just wanted to say hello to everyone in the group. I am a first time mommy to Shota Saito who just turned 5 months this past week. We live near the zoo in the Parkside area and I have been looking for a parent group to join. I'm not sure if any of your babies are around the same age as my son but it would be great to get together for a walk in the park!

You Can Have It All - Just Not All At Once
by BrittG on Sep 09, 2008We’ve all heard the chatter in magazines and on television about off ramps and on ramps, decreased earning power, increased competition, too much re-adjustment, too little flexibility, no jobs, no hope – nothing to look forward to.
Women are used to being told that once we get off the career track, we can't get back on.
In The Comeback, Emma Gilbey Keller proves that this isn’t true: more and more, companies today are looking at the value of hiring returning mothers.

S.F.: Strollers must be folded up on Muni
by BrittG on Sep 08, 2008Jonathan Curiel
Monday, September 8, 2008
This article appeared on page B - 2 of the San Francisco ChronicleStrollers on Muni: The other day, a woman with two young children - one of whom slept in a stroller - boarded a 43-Masonic bus. The driver told the mother to take her snoozing child out of the stroller - that Muni's policy requires strollers to be empty and folded up for buses that are in service. To make a long story short, the mother extricated her child, who then (jolted from sleep) threw an "Exorcist"-like fit, eventually forcing the woman to depart the bus with her two kids.
Why can't Muni allow strollers - with kids in them - on buses as long as the strollers' lock mechanism is on, asks a ChronicleWatch reader who witnessed the incident.
